Whilst we wait for Spring, I wanted to inquire if anyone knows of or is a participant in the Movember movement. What is Movember you ask? Well I shall tell you post haste! Movember is the month formerly known as November. During Movember, mustaches are grown in support of Men's health month! I am a Mo Bro registered at www.movember.com. I have been growing my mustache now for 7 days and accepting donations to the Prostate Cancer and Livestrong foundations! As of right now I have collected 75$.

If you feel you can support such an endeavor, by all means please visit my personal donation page at http://us.movember.com/mospace/327528. There you will see my own personal Movember advertisement, beckoning you with a drawn on mustache I'll have you know, to donate to the cause!

Within days I shall unveil my current attempts at my first ever mustache. For right now, it is a tad sparse..

What I am proposing WOULD NOT allow you free entry to future events but would guarantee that a ticket would be there for you to PURCHASE without having to sit like a sniper waiting to ponce on the online ticket sales to open.

i really want to know how many board members go through this rigmarole of having to beg for tickets ( just wondering )

part of the old debate about those evil COMP Tickets was based on avoiding some sort of elitism its all who you know lets keep everybody equal, but i ask you, are we all equal in this system and is the board being held accountable to and by the community we set out to create?

My argument is that the dedicated repeat veterans of this splendid event don't deserve this kind of treatment year after year, where we find ourselves begging for tickets. I know of plenty of jaded past participants who have just given up on attending because of this very issue.

I think its about time to open our minds to future possibilities and how it would work , after all while Fire Base Lloyd and the protection of the VVMC are great and have been wonderful things soon it will be time to spread our wings and set up something bigger than this. which is the reason I got involved isn this in the first place
AND, Yowymtryin Tatahkear...
AND, Hey'yer dew-init rawng...
AND, IT'ZTIL TEWLOWD!...
AND,oh-Whut-daPhuk?

"The Missionary Position" is hereby declared The Art Theme for Playa Del Fuego Spring 2010

PDF never had an Official Art Theme before, like Burning Man had since 1999.
{Yeah, 1998's "Nebulous Entity" didn't count as a Playa Art Theme, IMHO}
PDF is now TWICE as OLD as the 'Art Theme Era' of Burning Man.
Because we have twice as many years in a decade than it does,
Thus Our Metropolis has evolved twice as rapidly...
An uncharted outpost of an ancient people untamed...
Now invaded by a proselytizing horde from the future!
Behold, is Nothing Sacred?
Rejoice, Re-educate and Repeat!

"Yeah, that's it. I'm done. Here's your microphone kid, thanks. And, hey, would it be cool with you if I left my scooter plugged in here for an hour or so? It needs a recharge real bad. I'll be taking a nap right over there by the helicopter. Try not to play anything too fast...I won't be napping alone, if ya catch my drift?! Ya got any Marley? That would be nice."

So the theme basically works like this. Old-timers take responsibility for teaching the new-comers what's been learned over the years without scaring anybody away. Unless they're too easily scared...and then who cares, right?

To that end, I have dredged up some notes and stuff about "MOOP" from old PDF WWW's and the www.various.blah and I have not bothered with a frikkin' bibliography. If you feel I quoted you without due recognition, PM me if you're serious and I'll apologize, or just Reply to this Post if you're not really serious but just want to bust my chops anyway. Sue me if you want. I'm judgment-proof!

Dedicated to "The Mythical Virgins of Gen Pop", with Love!

MOOP = Matter Out Of Place
"MOOP is so much MORE than just ordinary trash."
It's dropped or blown-away items of ANY material.
Basically it comes in 4 categories:

Category 0 - Might be LOST? Somebody wants it back, but for now it exists only in their minds! Category "Zero" rarely causes a problem because, until it is FOUND, it is only a memory. [But if it was something the loser would like back, someday perhaps he or she could fill out a form like I placed under a different topic entitled "I AM A LOSER" because I think it will make my friend Smelly Melly laugh.]

Category 1 - It was FOUND. Somebody may want it back when they realize where they left it. It would be nice of you to hold on to it until their memory and your memory synchronize. Or the finder can help the loser to rely on the "Goodness Of Da System" by re-gifting it to the LOST & FOUND DEPT.

Category 2 - It was FOUND, but the person that left it behind does NOT want it back. It has become 'shit' to them, but unless it is found at Whisky & Whores, it is not the same kind of #2 that can be left in the Porta-potties. So it needs to be put in the dumpsters, or else it is MOOP. Yes, Virgins...NOW you know why MOOP rhymes with POOP. "It's really best when everybody puts their own shit in the right place." - George Carlin

Category 3 - Usable stuff like leftover food, utensils, blankets, tent stakes, clothing, soap, rope or dope. Hey, I find LOTS of this stuff when I am on a "Moop Walk" and sometimes I re-gift it to the dumpster, or Trader Travis, or to Scratch's Costume Camp, or the Lost & Found Dept. or I gave it to Marvin? It really just depends on how I feel about MY find. It was Matter Out Of Place. It couldn't stay where I found it, so I put it someplace else. MOOP Team Volunteers may not have more fun, but we sure do have more STUFF!

As for these people who pick up MOOP, they can likewise be divided into 4 groups:

A - Camp Mates! (which is really ALL of us at PDF, except the Vets, on whose land we're camping.) You should pick up what you put down, and not rely on your camp mates to pick it up for you. After all, if they were to pick it up too soon, you might call them a thief? But if you leave it lying there for so long you forget about it, but they remember, that makes you a liar!

B - Aliens! "PDF has no visitors, spectators, customers or strangers to blame for MOOP in the morning. All non-participants get vaporized each day at 4:20 AM by Marvin The Martian. Then he leaves in his flying saucer, taking nothing but millions and millions of tiny brain cells." So really, there is no point in worrying NOW about what MOOP that "B" found and hauled away. Worry instead about what YOU found. It wasn't left by aliens. Get real. "Everyone participates at PDF in one way or another. Some participants leave a mess behind. Don't be that behind!" And even if aliens DID leave a lot of bottles, butts and candy-wrappers behind, just accept that you were enjoying their company so much the night before, that they might have left you empty, smelly, dirty, broken gifts. If your camp just leaves those 'gifts' piling up, your camp will attract even MORE aliens, bearing MORE gifts, the next night!

C - Clean-up Crews from a PDF Volunteer MOOP Team, which is invisibly commanded by the "LBO" [Explained under a different topic entitled "LAST BURNER OFF"] This group is as real as you imagine it to be...kind of like aliens, come to think of it?!

D- Clean-up crews from the Vets. ALL MOOP found by "D" is left by "A" ...always! Neither "B" nor "C" are responsible for ANYTHING left behind by one, or many, of OUR camp mates. The Vets should not have to clean anything up, but inevitably they do. And when they do, they have the right to write what it was, and where it was found, on a MOOP map. But some MOOP may blow from one location to another before the final MOOP map is made, so maps can never solve the MOOP problem by themselves; ultimately it is all OUR problem.

It is OUR responsibility to "leave no trace" and it is our collective, shared goal. Our meeting that goal ultimately is measured by the people who remain when we leave. Ideally, we should leave behind only good memories.

It is YOUR responsibility to LEAVE NO MOOP.
That applies to any matter that you imported onto the Playa:

If it might blow away, STRAP it down. Gifts-by-breeze are rarely welcome, unless they smell good.

If it is something you don't want to blow away or 'walk away' while you're not there to watch it, then you should put it behind your tent FLAP. Out of sight is out of temptation. Borrowed and stolen items are just another form of Matter Out Of Place from where they should be. Most of us know who belongs in a neighbors tent, but few of us know what belongs to whom if the owner leaves it sitting out. So before you walk away, remember the breeze might pick up while you're gone.

If it is "household" trash, it may go in the dumpster, but if it is ash, it only goes on the ash dump. Ash & trash may rhyme, but they go in different SCRAP piles. Whenever possible, we try to keep the two places near to each other, but never start your own ash dump. Only dump ash where it is marked safe to do so, and ash should already be there to verify you found the right place. "Ashes to ashes" Before you walk away from leaving your trash or your ash, remember the breeze might pick up while you're gone.

Finally, "Road Spill" is one more type of MOOP that PDF may cause. This is that stack of poles or parts that get tied down to roofs of cars and vans. Even though you're tired and you just want to get on the road home, WRAP that stuff up well; remember the breeze will pick up while you're going.

Buh-bye, and get it off my lawn!

THE IDEA IS that we appoint somebody to be the "LBO" and that person is responsible for going over the Moop Map [TBD?] with the Vets' representative(s) after the clean-up.

This last event cleared out quicker than in the Spring, but there were some complaints apparently from the Vets. The specifics do not need to be discussed here; who it was, what it was, etc. That's not important for how to fix things for the future. I presume there is/was somebody who works with DPW / MOOP Team and reports on behalf of PDF to the Vets and Jamie to verify that PDF met or exceeded expectations? If nobody else wants this gig for the next event, I'll volunteer since I proposed the idea, or at least the title/description of it. On the other hand, I'd gladly let somebody else be the 'LBO' if it fits their schedule. I've been the unofficial LBO for about 7 of the last 10 events. Sometimes that was not so voluntary. Other times it was from convenience, as I have one of the shortest rides home. I'm not even sure who/how the current 'sign-off' is done with the Vets, so anybody with other ideas or info, please chime in.

We have several threads going on Tribe right now discussing the problem of excess litter left behind on the Vets' land. The Pavilion and general camping areas are the dirtiest.

I believe much of this problem comes from people who are new to burning events and just don't know any better. It can be hard to shift from the familiar, "I paid money for this festival, so now I can sit back and let people entertain me" mindset to the mindset of each person actually BEING the festival themselves, and that includes trash pick up.

So what I'd like to do is organize a "missionary" party where we get a bunch of seasoned burners to dress up like Mormons and go to general camping to spread the word.

Male Mormons will wear black slacks, a white dress shirt with tie and carry a black backpack. Female Mormons don't have a uniform, but they typically wear a very modest dress (do a google image search on "female Mormon missionaires"). However many people we get to participate in this event, we'll split up into teams of 2-3 people and spend 60-90 minutes talking to the folks in general population for about 10 minutes each, explaining how PDF is not just a party and explaining how they are empowered to help solve our recurring problems that keep happening in their "neighborhood."

I'm thinking each team will also carry a bottle of something good in their backpack and offer a drink to any parties we roll up on.

So just imagine it....you're sitting around partying with your friends some nice Saturday afternoon when you see a pair of guys in the Mormon "uniform," with name tags and all, walk up to you and start asking if you've heard of the Ten Principles. As soon as the conversation starts flowing, the Mormons pull bottles of booze out of their backpacks and offer you a drink.

This I think will be a fun, non-threatening way to educate a lot of newer people to know what's expected of them.

Who's with me?

I grant you, this time around there was wood actually set aside apart from the burn projects, for camp sites to still use. However, it was so freakin' cold, and there was such a lack of wood all around that every stake that Naked Ron had set up Thursday to mark off the boundaries and walking paths was gone by Monday morning. Burned.
People were cold and there wasn't enough wood.

So, I thought I would give everyone the opportunity to make a FRESH start, and check their attitudes at the door, so we can actually adress these VERY SERIOUS problems that are threatening PDF. So, allow me to repost on of my more recent comments from the thread that has since been buried underneath a bunch of shit:

After all that rambling, I think we are finally getting somewhere.

I will reiterate some of the things I have already said, and stress some points I have maybe not made so well:

Our community is one of "radical inclusion"

It is OUR responsibility to educate the newcomer; things like our ten principles, and policies at PDF that are outside of the principles such as the sound turn-down policy. It doesn't matter WHO in particular violates these policies or principles; it is WE as a community that are responsible, bottom line. Because, we are also a community devoted to "civic responsibility" and "communal effort". Problems with moop and sound are merely symptoms of a greater disease. Either we pull together and succeed, or divide ourselves and fail.

That's how I see it anyway...

And I'm just a "newbie".........

We've decided on a new reimbursement policy, in which all receipts must be submitted for reimbursement by the end of the current calendar year. In the future, that means that if you buy something in May and don't submit a receipt by December 31, your purchase will have to be considered a donation. After that time, you're welcome to submit them to me in exchange for a receipt for tax purposes.

For this year, though, we're offering amnesty. Any receipts you're holding for purchases made at any time in the past can still be submitted for reimbursement through December 31, 2009. At the beginning of next year, we start afresh. We just have too many people who've been meaning to get us their receipts forever, which makes it difficult to do realistic budget forecasting, because we may or may not have expenses outstanding. Please help us meet our community's goals by sending your receipts for reimbursement!

You can mail them to:
I'm Heidi, the PDF Theme Camp Coordinator and wanted to...

1. Explain how Theme Camp Registration works and sound.
2. Ask for complaints to be emailed. (not posted to Tribe)

But first read:

1. How registration works:

-A Theme Camp registers their Theme Camp by filling out a questionnaire. The questionnaire asks for a "Camp Leader". That Camp Leader is responsible for what happens in their camp. If there is a problem they are the one taking responsibility for their camp.
-The" Camp Leader" is specifically asked if they are a "Loud Camp" and must explain.
-They are then asked... "Are you and ALL members of your Theme Camp aware that our wonderful hosts have a mandatory rule that sound must be turned down at midnight?"

So...
The organizers/coordinators know exactly which camps are the "loud" camps and what specific person is taking responsibility.

2. Sound violations (not just complaints)
-If there is a sound violation (loud after midnight) it can be immediately discussed and resolved with the "Camp Leader".
-Yes, take action immediately. Don't just complain about it later.

OK, so if you really think there is a Sound Camp that needs "talking to". Please email directly to themecamps@playadelfuego.org.
The shorter the email the better.

Thanks for listening.

It's a very significant issue - please be aware that the words below are directly copied from an email from our VNVMC representative, the current Vet's President. The sound issues come from theme camps - until we have a new home (and even then, we may continue to have to be quiet earlier than we want) we must comply with the sound turn down policy. Will this convince you how important it is?

Summary
1. Sound problems - extremely serious
Email From Vets:

In addition, the music or I should say the Bass is a problem with the people that live around us. They didn’t mind the music too much but they said that the Bass has to stop at midnight or they will call the police and maybe start a petition to get it to stop.

In the spring with the trash that 1000 people had and you want to increase to 1200, I think you’ll need a third roll off for trash. In addition, I think that wristbands(I corrected spelling) are a good idea for our people and I think it should and will be mandatory for them to have one on or they will have to leave no exceptions!
My biggest prank was:
Putting a "Get this t-shirt and other official Playa Del Funno Merch at Participation Station" on the cover of the WWW guide. I know at least ONE person who went and asked for the shirt. Little did I know the amazing WINEMAN had made official shirts for his Pony build crew! So this was the first PDF with official shirts, ha ha ha ha.

Camping next to Nick, a first-time burner who jumped right in and embraced the spirit of the event.

Camping under the copter like in the old days.

The stage. Incredible improvement! LOVED the lights.
The Dinky Diner - Freaking awesome!

The Barbie canon. Hee hee. Safety third.

The amazing food all weekend - Casey's kabobs, Nick's Asian and Indian food, Jamaican jerked chicken, grilled cheese, Dan's stew, yum!
The agenda as it currently stands (always open to additional suggestions ON
THE BBS) is as follows:

1. Sound Problems

a. Possibility of Theme Camp Sound Registration
b. Sound Patrol (how do we give Sound Patrol "enforcement
authority"? The enforcement issue may be something we have to take to the
board, since they deal with evictions and such.)

2. Clean Up Problems

a. Creation of a Moop Map
3. Ticket Cap Increase

a. Additional Parking
b. Additional Trash Roll Offs
c. Additional Port-a-Potties
d. Additional Insurance Considerations

4. Future Fall Burn Needs

a. Additional Wood Purchase (we need to consider buying
additional wood because it's just so much colder. We also may want to think
about asking the Vets if they'd like to sell us firewood by the bundle to
individuals, rather than dipping into community money to pay for it)

5. Location Search Status Update

a. Request a Status from Magorn and the Land Search Committee

Ananas & Matt are opening their home for this meeting!
call! Conference Dial-in Number: (712) 775-7000 at Access Code: 794580#
participate, entrees, side dishes, desserts and beverages (all kinds) are
more than welcome.****
The more of us that take care of the details, the less work each of us has
to do individually, and the more fun for all. Feel even more connected to
your community as you give back a little time! (Playa del Fuego is 100%

"Ticket hoarding" is the practice of people buying more tickets than they need. This results in (and is caused by) tickets quickly selling-out, so that naive late-comers cannot plan to attend.

Ticket hoarding hurts the event: attendees are denied the participation and planning of those who want to attend but cannot. As well, those who miss out have an incentive to hoard tickets themselves next time.

But there is a positive side: the event is virtually guaranteed to sell out while ensuring that fewer people actually go, which means less hassle during the event.

I'm inaugurating this thread to discuss ticket hoarding specifically, including resources, links and opinions.

As I see it, hoarding is an economic issue, and there are probably very smart people out there who have studied it. Perhaps they have insight that will help make PDF an even better, more inclusive event.
Imagine a place where ANARCHY is not just a rule - it's a law of physics... This is BUGTOWN... A seemingly endless urban landscape, whose streets and buildings frequently wander from one reality to another, like a spoiled child in search of a new toy. As a result of this habit, Bugtown is able to supplement the already twisted local population with selections from all corners of the infinite array of alternate reality levels. Sharing their hometown's ability to freely travel between realities, the natives of Bugtown can also be anywhere they want to be.
The Post Brothers: Two funloving but extremely twisted bad-boys hailing from the wrong side of Bugtown. They are very greedy, pathologically trigger-happy, completely corruptible, endlessly irritating, psychotically solipsistic, and - unfortunately for all - possessed of the ability to instantly shift between all possible reality levels. The Universe is their oyster, and they like it raw.

Hey there fine folks! I could still use help with my art installation at PDF - I have a theme camp space for camping, and even a few tickets for those that can help with the setup/teardown. I finally put a couple of test videos up, so you can see what you'd be helping bring to PDF:

http://vimeo.com/videos/search:mediadog

I'm looking to setup Thursday as soon after gates open as possible. Besides the usual stuff of setting up and decorating of the shade structure, it would be swell to have some folks help with the setup of the interactive video stuff, which involves running some wires and lights, and jumping around in front of the screen while I calibrate it. Maybe run into town to pick up missing parts or food/booze. During the shows, I could use a couple more people to help folks learn how to use it, and wrangle the 3D glasses. And then of course the Monday morning teardown.

So if you'd like to help, lemme know! Even if you don't need a ticket!

Ciao!

P.S. - And those of you on fire team know I always serve quality champagne...

P.P.S. - Here's the blurb on the piece from the WWW:

The Electric Heliotrope Theater

An immersive, interactive sensory space, a theater of light and sound that moves and dances with you. There will be different shows (after dark) at various times throughout the event: Dance The Body Electric, where your dancing creates and changes the images and sound around you; Flying Dreams, where you stretch out your arms and fly through imagined worlds, cities, creatures and universes in HiDef 3D; Light Waves, where you touch the screen and create swirls and washes of evolving colors and shapes; and more! Each evening there will also be "open mic/line-in" sessions for anyone that wants to jam/sing/wordjazz/DJ with The ehT.

The software running The ehT is freely available, and after this PDF anyone will be able to create pieces for The ehT to be performed at the spring PDF and other public performances. More info will be available at The ehT!

One printed item I thought of a few years back would be a Calendar. Theme Camps would compete to provide a Group Photo showing them in their top form or at their craziest antics. Or it could be done along the corny lines of "The Girls of PDF" and/or "The Guys of PDF"? But I like the idea of the Group Photo to get more people in it, since there's only 12 months, and there's easily more than a dozen individuals that are meritorious. The winning photos would each be assigned a month; on each month would also be an inset photo of a burning fire art, or other Playa Del Fuego artwork. Inset in the day boxes, holidays would be highlighted with half-tone photos of firespinners. Dates related to Art Grant application deadlines, ticket sales/times would be listed (if available at time of publication?) and other Regionals and BRC deadlines would also be included as well as Santarchies & SantaCons and the 'Decoms' that have been around for a minimum of 3 years. Links to online update pages would help the reader be assured of accurate info. 12 artistic border designs would tie it all together; again these border designs would be by members of the PDF community only. Final layout would be approved at the Fall PDF for the next years' calendar, which would get printed in late October and be available by mid-November. Sales of this calendar would benefit the PDF Community Outreach Programs after it pays for its own printing costs. Black & White suggested for the 1st run? If popular, upgrade to color?

I am especially looking for an older woman with blonde, short hair from Columbia, Maryland. I missed my opportunity to get her information. (I also forgot your name!! SORRYY!!) BUT. if you happen to know anyone of that description, please send them my way, here on tribe. I can also be found on Facebook [Bryan Lee]. Also, if you are one of those people who do not live in this area, please direct your friends that do to me.

This was the greatest PDF for me (number 3). I was honored with the award of 1st place and Style on the Nekkid Slip n' Slide. Recognition from the community felt overwhelming and loving. I felt humbled by the positive comments and the support. Expect some more original moves of mine in the spring.

I've gone too long with this message. But take care and thank you for reading!

Thanks to...

... Pretzel House (ie. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe!!) You guys were awesome neighbors and your fires definitely helped us out on Sunday night!

... all my old friends from previous PDFs! It was AWESOME seeing you guys again and definitely a highlight to run in you all. I hope we can only grow closer. :)

... the massive wind. This may seem odd but it at least showed us how to properly stake a tent and prompt us to bring something even better for spring!!

... the people who threw away the table. It was a random find, and a bit dusty, but it seemed to find a new life out on the playa.

... Cookieman! Thanks so much for the delicious cookies!

... the group of guys dressed up in dresses. I sadly forgot all of your names! Please feel free to keep in contact with me. I'd love to hear from you all again and hope you all return in the spring. :)

... The BCDC for letting MonkieKitty and I chill at your camp, check out your toys, and just have a wonderful general vibe!

... ALL THE RANGERS! Saturday night was a tad rough, as they all know, and I want to thank them all so much for the help in the situation.

... Smarty Marty and Fritz for not only helping MonkieKitty feel better and getting her to the front gate for the ambulance but making sure our volunteer shift got covered. I again deeply apologize and we both feel really bad about it! We'll definitely owe you guys in the spring!!

... Saint for posting the pony burn so I can see it rather than from afar when running to the back lot.

... The guys who offered me the pulled pork sammiches and fruit punch. That was awesome and delicious!!

I'm sure I'm forgetting tons more here but definitely, THANK YOU ALL! This was an eventful PDF but also a great one! I hope to keep in contact with you all and see you all in the Spring. And for the ones I haven't met yet, I hope to get to know you all soon. :)

Jeers: That anyone has any jeers. This PDF blew me away.

Cheers: I've posted a couple of subjects on both Camp Sexy and Kamp Clusterphuck's boards concerning why this was my best PDF ever. I intend to also post to Idea Dome, but here's what I've got so far:

Camp Sexy: Saturday, as I was sleeping in the sun, some people came on over and covered me, head-to-toe, with pillows so I would not burn like the pony. THANK YOU! Also, great thanks goes out to those who were worried sick by my drunken idiocy on Sunday-early morning. SORRY!

Clusterphuck: You phuckers already know, but just in case you're hard of hearing, you guys are the only REAL family I've got. Thank you for accepting me and assimilating me. I have never in my life ever felt so at home as I do camping with you guys. You took care of me, fed me, loved me, and taught me what it means to be a ClusterPhucker. I owe everything to you.

Idea Dome: What can I say? As with my prior two PDFs, I found myself at Idea Dome and your military tent more than anywhere else. Conversations about metaphysics, Stephen King, and Burner Responsibilities made me keep coming back, nearly every time I passed your camp. Thank you for the warm welcomings and for just being who you are. I love you all!

Lars and Abject Photo: As you do every year, you two filled my PDF with joyous photos, shown on-the-spot to anyone who asked, I can't wait to see them posted! Take your time, tho. No rush. And Lars, thanks for the cigarettes!

Everyone who stayed up all Sunday night into Monday morning with me around the last burn: Let me just say, those were BY FAR the BEST moments of my whole PDF. We sat - or snuggled - there for hours, just babbling about PDF and all the fun we'd had that weekend. I was gifted with some delicious fun guys which I was then permitted to REgift to someone else. The joy I got handing those 'guys off to the first person I saw, and then seeing his eyes light up was nearly unmatched. The only thing that beat that was the joy I got being appreciated by people I had not previously met. I snuggled with a group of people there - all ClusterPhuckers - and fell madly in love. With Life, with myself, my fellow Phuckers, with Shana...Christ what an amazing morning. I have never in my life been half as happy as I was on Monday morning. Thank you all for making it possible.

And to my fellow Phuckers who partied with me on Monday night: The hotel party was a phenomenal idea. Lucky, Rev, Jim, Durf, StirFry, and of course, Mad-Dog. 1 bottle of rum, 1 bottle of tequila, 1 bottle of lime juice, 4 limes, some sea salt, a couple of pizzas, and a lifetime of PDF stories made our own little decomp party PHUCKING PERFECT. Then, the ride home today...*sigh* I hope my life stays on this trend.

To that cute little number in Stillwater: I'll be seeing you soon, darlin'.

Dick: For the peace offering. Dude, without that, I'd've been in the absolute WRONG state of mind to truly enjoy PDF. You really did make all of my fun and joy and love and good times possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE BEST WEEKEND OF MY LIFE!

Mad Love ALWAYS!!!
enjoyed our gifts and our company. Much fun. Much joy. Makes me feel good.

There is a lot more people I want to thank personally...
Dusty.. for being Dusty, Viking Pete..well for being Viking Pete (ha),
Bob from KlusterPhuck for his gift of colored fire,
and anyone who came to the Friday drum circle... just good stuff.
And I was thankful to have met so many new people....
(and I met A LOT of new people, it's hard to keep track)
If you are reading this and remember me, drop me a line, I would love to hear from yas.

Well, that's the best I can do in a short message.
Last I just want to thank MY DOMIES for being the best bunch of friends.
Yall are just awesome.

With respect and love,
-Matthew James

Looking around this particular burn, I was able to see so much growth. This is no longer a Burning Man training camp (as I've heard many other people refer to it), PDF is the place to be!!!

A quiet moment with Alln, I hope you're feeling back to sorts again. Don't think too hard, it'll be our biggest downfall in the end. Let what's happening, happen.

A million laughs with Pete, my Viking neighbor.
Best Thursday night ever!!!!
Picco (I hope I spelled it right) and Kitten's visit with the strawberry blend. Maybe it wasn't ending to show us this it's all really just beginning? Thanks for bringing your newbie's around to meet us!
Coming around the corner just as the bass was starting to kick up on Saturday and seeing Coyote dancing, his face filled with joy, his smile radiating fabulous energy as he bounced with the beat and looked up, up ,up at the tower.
Sitting on East Allen furniture at PDF, it made home feel even more like home.
Bunny jewelry and amazing conversations...
Taking a walk to back gate with Snuggles, we needed that.
Riding the pony, how awesome was that?!?!
If this looks familiar, that's because it is an edited version of fall's call for a PDF PONY (so sue me--I'm freakin lazy):

PONY UP! Since you're still feeling a bit of the glow from last weekend and you're just bursting with creativity, please apply to build the next PDF Pony. Our next Burn comes on Memorial Day weekend of 2010.

Maybe you were thinking we were flooded with applications to build the Pony over the years and you don't stand a chance-- well, THINK AGAIN! I've only gotten eight applications over the past seven burns. On the two occasions we didn't get applications, I had to beg and plead. (THANK YOU Ember and Monk-E)

Maybe you were thinking the organization doesn't spend all that much money or care much about the Pony-- well, THINK AGAIN! You can get a grant up to $700, and the Pony is the centerpiece of the Burn. Everyone cares and appreciates a good Pony.

Greetings,

This was to be a father/son burn for me and Lothar. However, since I didn't get tix till yesterday, Lothar neglected to take off from his weekend job at Wegman's, and now it's too late. He could fake an illness or kill a ficticious relative, but is to ethical to do so. He also missed the big burn because school started early and he did not want to miss the first 4 days. Missing burns for school and work??? What the Hell is wrong with kids today??? He didn't get that from MY side of the family, I'll tell you that!

Anyway, I could just pitch a tent and go solo. But Ludos are social creatures. So, I am putting out this ad:

Free to good home: One large red furry beast. Completely housebroken, will not crap on your floor. I do still have my back claws. Low maintenance. Space requirements include one 10' x 20' carport to house my tent and small kitchen. Self-powering, I have a 2000 watt genny. I am a fair cook, and tend to make quantities sufficient for the population of a smaller burn. And you get the first shot at Mimosa Man!! (man...man...man...man) on Sunday morning.

I am arriving Friday noon-ish and leaving Sunday evening. Handy at setup, as I can put the star atop your tree without a stepladder, like the Bumble.

Interested? Reply here or PM me.

Thanks and have an awesome burn.

The Dinky Diner
Your hosts The Teeni Quentini, Tiny Heidi and Midget Miss Fidget with be serving food picked from our small menu. Stop by for a little bite to eat and some small talk... breakfast, lunch and dinner at 21.5% size.

Slip N Slide
THIS IS A NO CAMERA EVENT. Saturday 2:15. You've all seen it, 800+ sq. ft of wet slippery fun, with your hostess "Heidi the Hose Girl". With the help of the Vietnam Vets as Judges, there will be trophies awarded to naked sliders, but the clothed sliders are welcome too.

Trader Travis
Like a lost nomad scurrying the floor of barren Earth for spare parts, Trader Travis forfeits his wares to the people of Playa Del Fuego. From his suppliers and warehouses all across the land to items from his own personal collection of odds and ends, come amazing items for you to enjoy. Bring what you have to trade, nothing is for sale. Please don't embarrass yourself and try to bring me all your unwanted crap on Monday. Open most days, some evening hours.

Flying Monkey Tea House
Enjoy fine tea and biscuits at the Flying Monkey Tea House. Please note that the tea house is a very intimate place thus due to these inherent space restrictions, invitations will be issued sparatically on the Playa to the most fabulous of persons and those in considerably fantastic playa attire.

Malvoye the Mentalist
This fully automated fortune telling booth, will be sharing versions of the future... unlike his cousin the ubiquitous Zoltar... Malvoye's fortunes are directed to the actual user using a combination of advanced computer electronics melded with mysticism and a sacred Lenapee Indian artifact. Caution: all may be foretold - not for the faint of heart. The Malvoye booth operates under a seemingly random schedule which is only known to be linked with celestial movements... stop by daily for updates.

Hot Toddies
Being served Saturday night after the burn.

Since Spring PDF '09 was my official introduction to the fire arts, I thought I would give something back to the PDF community in the fall now that I have acquired some skill in the medium. So, I will be hosting spinning workshops in the afternoon, every day this coming PDF. When I finalize the schedule I will submit it to the What/Where/When publication, but I thought I would put the word out here first to stir up interest and get some feedback. I intend for the workshops to be useful for beginners and advanced fire performers alike. I myself am primarily a poi spinner, but I also play with rope dart and meteor. I will do multiple workshops, each with a different focus, so as to cater to everyone's interests and skill level: beginner/intermediate poi, advanced poi, fire safety, and an open category for object manipulation besides poi spinning. If I can get some hoopers/staff spinners/jugglers, etc. to volunteer perhaps I will subdivide the open category. Fire safety will be the final lesson of the day, perhaps followed by a spin jam after the sun goes down. I will bring extra sock poi for beginners, and will be happy to lend some of my fire equpiment, but participants are encouraged to bring their own toys.

Anyone who is interested in helping me with these workshops, please post here or feel free to send me a PM. I am looking in particular for non-poi performers, especially if you do anything strange or unusual with fire. Also, I would love to hear any requests for what you would like to learn at PDF this fall.
So Brewster - my most excellent tone deaf song writer - got me/us a great Friday evening main stage performance slot at PDF... and we have a handful of pretty non-techno songs to share w/ anyone interested - but as of right now the songs require a piano/keyboard
So!
Does anyone have a portable set of keys they are willing to bring to PDF
or
do you know anyone bringing a fairly full set to PDF
or
do you know if that piano that was decorated and gifted to the vets during Spring - is that functional?
or
do you know that elephants can't jump?

if you know anything of the sort - send me a message!
peace and love ya'll
